Sony and LINE Collaborate to Integrate Mini-Apps into Soneium Blockchain

Sony’s Soneium blockchain is set to integrate LINE’s popular mini-apps, marking a significant collaboration between the Japanese tech and communication giants. This partnership aims to bring LINE’s mini-games on-chain, enhancing their functionality with blockchain-based rewards and digital ownership features.

The integration will begin with four games—Sleepagotchi LITE, Farm Frens, Puffy Match, and Pocket Mob—which will be launched on the Soneium blockchain in the coming months. These games have established strong followings and will benefit from enhanced in-game economies and engagement mechanisms powered by Web3 technology.

According to the official announcement, LINE mini-app developers will receive support from Soneium in community building, strategic marketing, and intellectual property (IP) collaboration, ensuring a smoother transition into the blockchain space. Jun Watanabe, Chairman of Sony Block Solutions Labs, highlighted the partnership’s significance, stating,

“LINE has built a strong presence, and integrating successful mini-apps into the Soneium ecosystem is the next step toward making Soneium more accessible.”

By bridging LINE’s vast user base with Sony’s Ethereum Layer-2 infrastructure, the two companies are positioning themselves at the forefront of Web3 adoption in Japan and beyond.

Bringing Mini-Apps On-Chain

The integration will involve the following mini-apps:

  • Sleepagotchi LITE: A simplified version of the upcoming sleep rewards application that reached 1 million users on Telegram within a month.
  • Farm Frens: Developed by Amihan Entertainment, this farming simulation game has secured over $10 million in funding and will introduce its engaging gameplay to LINE’s audience.
  • Puffy Match: Created by Moonveil, this match-three puzzle game is part of a zero-knowledge layer-2 and AI-powered gaming ecosystem, aiming to expand its reach through this integration.
  • Pocket Mob: Developed by Sonzai Labs, this social strategy role-playing game allows players to earn Respect points convertible to NFT rewards, offering a unique gaming experience.

By bringing these applications on-chain, the partnership seeks to provide seamless access to Web3 functionalities, such as in-game rewards and purchases, thereby enhancing user engagement and adoption.

Soneium and LINE: Strengthening Japan’s Web3 Ecosystem

LINE, one of the most widely used messaging platforms in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand, has been actively expanding its Web3 offerings. In January 2025, the company launched a decentralized app (dApp) portal, allowing users to access blockchain applications through the LINE mobile messenger. The initiative, powered by Kaia, marked a key step in LINE’s efforts to bring decentralized technologies into mainstream digital experiences.

At the same time, Sony Block Solutions Labs (SBSL), Sony’s blockchain subsidiary, introduced Soneium, a Layer 2 blockchain built on Ethereum’s Optimism OP Stack. The Soneium mainnet went live in January 2025, positioning itself as a scalable and developer-friendly platform designed to bridge Web2 users into Web3.

Sony Block Solutions Labs, a joint initiative between Sony and Singapore-based Startale Labs, primarily manage Soneium. The project aims to “transcend boundaries, allowing users to experience the benefits of Web3 without friction,” according to SBSL’s vision statement. Since its launch, Soneium has grown to become the 15th largest Ethereum Layer-2 network by Total Value Locked (TVL), according to L2 Beat, signaling strong adoption within the blockchain space.

Through its partnership with LINE, Sony’s Soneium blockchain is now at the forefront of Web3 adoption in Asia, leveraging decentralized applications and digital asset integration to create a more interactive, user-friendly blockchain ecosystem.
