Pump.fun’s X Account Hacked – Users Warned to Stay Away

Pump.fun’s official X account has been compromised, with hackers using it to promote a fake governance token called “PUMP.” The incident raises fresh concerns about phishing scams and crypto cybersecurity, as users are warned to avoid interacting with suspicious links.

Pump.fun’s X Account Breached to Promote Fake Token

The official Pump.fun X account was hacked on Feb. 26, leading to the unauthorized promotion of a fraudulent governance token named “PUMP”. Hackers leveraged the compromised account to deceive users, posting messages claiming that early adopters and OG community members would be rewarded.

“The official Pump.fun governance token, where democracy has never been this degen. We will also be rewarding our OG degens,” the hacker posted, attempting to lure users into interacting with the scam.

ZachXBT and Pump.fun Team Issue Warnings

Onchain investigator ZachXBT was one of the first to sound the alarm, warning users to stay away from the page and not engage with any links posted by the compromised account.

The Pump.fun team later confirmed the hack, stating that they are actively working to restore the account’s security and remove malicious content.

Crypto Social Media Hacks on the Rise

The Pump.fun breach is part of a growing trend of high-profile social media hacks targeting crypto platforms and influencers. Attackers often hijack accounts to promote fake token launches, phishing links, and malicious smart contracts, aiming to drain unsuspecting users’ wallets.

This attack follows a series of recent breaches, including the $1.4 billion Bybit hack, the largest in crypto history, which has pushed crypto cybersecurity to the forefront of industry concerns.

What’s Next?

The Pump.fun hack underscores the urgent need for stronger security measures across crypto-related social media accounts. Users are advised to:

  • Ignore links and messages from compromised accounts until official restoration is confirmed.
  • Verify official announcements via multiple channels before engaging with new token claims.
  • Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) and ensure account security measures are in place.

As the crypto industry continues to expand, so do the threats that target its users. The Pump.fun hack serves as a reminder that vigilance and robust security practices are essential to navigating the digital asset space safely.

Pump.fun’s response and account recovery efforts will be closely watched as the industry works to combat the growing wave of cyber threats affecting blockchain projects and their communities.
