Pump.fun Restores Livestream for 5% of Users

Alon Cohen, co-founder of the Solana-based memecoin launchpad Pump.fun, is set to bring back live streaming on the platform — five months after suspending the feature due to repeated incidents involving harmful content.

In an April 4 post on X, Cohen announced that livestreaming had returned for just 5% of users, emphasizing that the feature now includes “industry standard moderation systems” and clear content guidelines to ensure community safety and engagement.

Pump.fun’s new livestream policy is designed to balance freedom of expression with user protection, stating its goal is to foster a creative, social environment that avoids illegal, harmful, or negative interactions.

“To cultivate a social environment on Pump.fun that preserves creativity and freedom of expression,” the platform explains, “and encourages meaningful engagement… free of illegal, harmful, and negative interactions.”

Violating the rules—such as posting violent, pornographic, or abusive content—could result in a user’s livestream privileges or entire Pump.fun account being terminated.

Yet, some ambiguity remains. The policy also notes that Pump.fun “does not intend to universally define what content is ‘appropriate’ or ‘inappropriate,’” acknowledging that “much content generally defined as NSFW” may still appear on the platform.

The moderation team reserves the right to “unilaterally determine the appropriateness of content” and act accordingly.

Why Livestreaming Was Suspended

Pump.fun originally pulled the plug on livestreaming in November 2024, after memecoin creators began using the tool to stream increasingly disturbing and shock-driven content in an attempt to hype their tokens.

In some extreme cases, users threatened self-harm or violence if token prices didn’t hit certain targets.

The team said the platform’s rapid growth had overwhelmed its moderation capabilities, forcing it to shut down livestreaming “indefinitely” while it rebuilt the necessary infrastructure.

Mikko Ohtamaa, co-founder of Trading Strategy, was one of several voices warning that unmoderated livestreams would bring legal consequences and unwanted mainstream attention.

“These streams are causing practical issues where people are breaking the law in live broadcasts,” he said at the time. “This will trigger a shutdown when the mainstream media catches wind.”

Pump.fun’s decision to relaunch livestreaming comes during a difficult moment for the memecoin space. Following major rug pulls like Libra (LIBRA) and Melania Meme (MELANIA), and the crash of Trump (TRUMP), which has dropped over 90% from its January high—the once-booming sector is deep in a cooldown phase.

Can Livestreaming Bring the Energy Back?

By limiting access to just a small portion of its users, Pump.fun appears to be testing the waters with its revamped livestreaming feature—gauging whether moderation can hold up before a full-scale rollout.

Whether this move reignites community activity or revives the memecoin launchpad’s momentum remains to be seen. In a more cautious and quieter market, Pump.fun may need more than streams to bring the hype back—but for now, it’s hoping better tools and tighter rules can make livestreaming safer and maybe even fun again.
