Paris Saint-Germain has taken a bold step into digital finance, officially confirming that it now holds Bitcoin in its treasury—becoming the first major sports club globally to do so. The announcement preceded the club’s UEFA Champions League final victory and signals a long-term strategic bet on crypto.
Speaking at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas, Pär Helgosson, head of PSG Labs, revealed that the club converted part of its fiat reserves into Bitcoin and continues to hold the asset. “We still have it in our books,” Helgosson said, noting PSG’s historic position as the largest sports institution to integrate Bitcoin into its treasury.
The move marks a break from the typical short-lived crypto ventures seen in sports—such as NFTs and fan tokens—and instead positions PSG as a leader aligned with the values of its digital-native fanbase. By branding itself as the “club of the new generation,” PSG aims to lead not just in football, but in the financial evolution of global sports.
PSG Doubles Down on Bitcoin With Historic UCL Victory
While most football clubs dabbled in crypto through one-off projects, Paris Saint-Germain is investing in long-term infrastructure. After launching a fan token via Socios and experimenting with NFT art in partnership with Crypto.com, PSG is now expanding its crypto strategy into startup incubation—leveraging its global fanbase of more than 550 million.
Driving the initiative is PSG Labs, the club’s venture arm founded in 2024 to support Bitcoin-centric innovation. Speaking at Bitcoin 2025, Helgosson reaffirmed the club’s commitment to building in the Bitcoin space:
“We will launch with you, list with you, raise with you. We’ll help you reach a global market.”
His statement came just moments after Pakistani officials announced their own strategic Bitcoin reserve, underscoring a broader institutional shift toward crypto-backed national and corporate strategies.
Meanwhile, Bitcoin is trading at $106,113, down 1.6% in the last 24 hours, according to CoinGecko.
Capping off a monumental week, PSG also delivered one of the most dominant performances in Champions League history, crushing Inter Milan 5–0 in Munich. Goals from Désiré Doué, Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and breakout teen Senny Mayulu sealed the victory. PSG’s fan token reacted positively, jumping 2.2% in the past hour to $2.04, reflecting renewed market enthusiasm around the club’s crypto initiatives.
