Collector Wins $100K in Bitcoin From $50 Trading Card Pack

Quick Facts:

  • A $50 Cardsmiths trading card pack contained a Bitcoin redemption card worth over $100,000.
  • Cardsmiths’ 2024 Holiday Currency Set included crypto redemption cards for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Dogecoin.
  • Previous Bitcoin wins include a full BTC redemption from a $33 pack sold at GameStop in 2024.

A trading card collector struck gold after purchasing a $50 pack from Cardsmiths’ 2024 Holiday Currency Set, discovering a Bitcoin redemption card valued at over $100,000. The card, redeemable for a full Bitcoin, was one of the rarest finds in the series, which also includes crypto redemption cards for Ethereum, Litecoin, and Dogecoin. This marks one of the largest Bitcoin redemptions in Cardsmiths’ history, with future sets promising more crypto prizes.

Cardsmiths has gained prominence for blending collectible trading cards with crypto prizes. The 2024 Holiday Currency Set, which included themed cards like the Gingerbread Man and Charles Dickens, offered collectors a chance to win various cryptocurrencies, with Bitcoin redemption cards appearing in roughly one out of every 96 packs.

“Cardsmiths offers collectors an opportunity to explore this new world of digital currency in a unique way,” said Steve Loney, owner of Cardsmiths.

“This most recent discovery from our Currency Holiday 2024 Trading Card series just shows that any pack pull has the potential to become a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

Past Wins and Future Releases

This isn’t the first time a Bitcoin redemption card has been found in a Cardsmiths pack. Last year, a collector discovered a full Bitcoin card from a $33 pack purchased at GameStop. Cardsmiths has confirmed at least three Bitcoin redemptions from its series so far, with more expected in upcoming releases.

Tonyk, Cardsmiths’ parent company, initially indicated that five Bitcoin redemption cards were produced in the first series, though it remains unclear if that count extends to future sets. To date, at least three Bitcoin redemption cards have been publicly claimed across multiple series, adding to the allure and excitement surrounding future releases.

The next editions, Currency Series 5 and SPACE: Galactic Edition, are set to launch later this year, continuing the trend of crypto integration into the collectible card market. Cardsmiths excitedly shared on their website:

“For those eager and hoping to acquire their own rare finds, Cardsmiths has even more exciting releases in the works. Currency Series 5 Trading Cards and SPACE: Galactic Edition are slated to hit shelves later this year, both offering the chance to uncover the highly coveted Cryptocurrency Redemption Cards. These upcoming releases will be available for purchase on”
