When people think of crypto, they think volatility, speculation, maybe even memes. But Chris Kline thinks about retirement. For nearly a decade, he’s been building a bridge between the digital asset revolution and one of the most traditional pillars of personal finance: the Individual Retirement Account.
As the Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Bitcoin IRA, Chris has helped pioneer the concept of crypto-backed self-directed IRAs—giving everyday Americans the tools to secure their future with Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other digital assets. But his vision goes far beyond offering an exotic investment option. Chris is betting that the future of retirement isn’t just digital—it’s decentralized, trustless, and aligned with a generation that’s demanding more transparency from their financial system.
“For a bull or a very big believer in Bitcoin or the cryptos, it’s an ideal environment to build out your long term savings in a long term holding pattern that gives you that tax umbrella savings around you.,” Chris said on The CoinRock Show.
From Political Aspirations to Protocols
Chris didn’t start out in finance—or crypto. In fact, he once imagined a career in politics. His Twitter handle, @senatorkline, is a relic from college, when he was canvassing for the McCain–Palin campaign and envisioning a life of public service. But politics, as it turns out, wasn’t his calling.
“I thought I was going to be a senator,” he said.
“That was my plan. And right out of college, I actually worked on a campaign.”
That pivot led Chris into the world of alternative finance. And in 2016, long before “Bitcoin ETF” became a household phrase, Chris co-founded Bitcoin IRA—a first-of-its-kind platform enabling users to hold crypto assets in IRS-compliant retirement accounts. It was a radical idea at the time. Crypto was still niche. Regulation was murky. And institutional infrastructure was practically nonexistent.
“We were early in the space,” he revealed.
“We’re the first to do this. Then we’ve been through all of it. I didn’t have any gray hairs when I started this. I’ve been through my bears. I’ve been through my bulls.”
But Chris believed in one core principle: everyone deserves a shot at financial sovereignty.
Making IRAs Sexy (Seriously)
Retirement accounts have never been considered glamorous—until now. With Bitcoin IRA, Chris and his team combined the boring-but-essential framework of IRAs with the excitement of a rapidly evolving asset class. The platform offers tax-deferred (or in some cases tax-free) exposure to cryptocurrencies, backed by insured custodial partners, and wrapped in a sleek digital experience that speaks to a younger, tech-savvy audience.
It’s not just a fintech facelift. It’s a fundamental rethinking of retirement planning in a world where traditional assets are losing ground.
“You can have direct investment in up to 80 different cryptocurrencies available on the platform. And they’re stored in segregated insured wallets for you,” Chris explained.
The results speak for themselves. As of this year, Bitcoin IRA has helped users move more than $1 billion into digital asset IRAs, supporting over 14,000 account holders and establishing itself as a leader in crypto retirement solutions.
Beyond Bitcoin
While Bitcoin remains the dominant asset on the platform (making up about 65% of total volume), Chris is quick to point out that diversification is key—and that the institutional playbook is evolving.
“Not everybody can do the same playbook of Bitcoin,” he said.
“They’re only 21 million. So I wouldn’t be surprised to see some Ethereum and some Solana treasury-based strategies ahead,”
He’s especially bullish on Ethereum’s return to staking and its role in scalable digital infrastructure. But his philosophy is refreshingly anti-tribal.
“Ethereum with staking coming back to life is also there. I feel like it’s kind of on a revenge run. I’m watching Ethereum very closely for the next couple of months.”
It’s this pragmatic view that sets Chris apart. He doesn’t chase hype. He watches for inflection points—like supply shocks, regulatory shifts, and institutional adoption. And he doesn’t think the next wave will be driven by tweets or token pumps. It will be driven by policy, scarcity, and necessity.
“We’re one cycle away from miners competing for less than one Bitcoin,” he warned. “That’s when things get really interesting. human behavior is very interesting in scarcity.”
Crypto as Global Insurance
Chris’s vision goes far beyond American retirement accounts. He sees crypto as a global insurance policy—a hedge not just against inflation, but against broken financial systems.
He cites El Salvador and Argentina as examples. Where traditional institutions failed, Bitcoin offered an alternative. And as hyperinflation and currency devaluation continue to plague emerging markets, Chris believes crypto adoption will spread not unlike the domino theory of the Cold War—one country at a time, driven by necessity.
“Everybody’s gonna struggle with currency,” he said.
“We’ve all abused them. We’ve beaten them. We’ve battered them. We’ve printed them to death.”
It’s not just talk. Chris has spent years studying global finance and leadership strategy. His passion is rooted in real data, real user behavior, and a deep respect for the power of decentralized systems to create change at scale.
Legacy, Literacy, and the Long Game
Despite his success, Chris remains focused on the long game. He’s not in it for likes or headlines. He’s in it to build trust—and change minds.
“Talk to one person a day about crypto,” he said.
“Change someone’s mind every day. It’s good for them, and it’s good for all of us.”
That educational spirit is built into the DNA of Bitcoin IRA. The platform doesn’t just offer investment tools—it offers investor literacy. From dedicated account specialists to curated market research, the goal is to empower users to make informed, sovereign decisions.
And it’s working. For a generation that grew up distrusting banks, Bitcoin IRA offers something both familiar and radically new: a place to build legacy on their own terms.
