Twitch Streamers Compete for 1 BTC on Netflix-Style Show

A new UK-based reality series, House of Streams, is putting a crypto twist on the traditional game show format by offering 1 Bitcoin—currently valued at over $104,000—as the grand prize. Premiering June 18 on a Netflix-licensed platform, the show will feature eight Twitch streamers with a combined audience of over four million. Contestants will face off in challenge-based episodes, with the BTC prize adding a high-stakes, digital edge to the genre.

Series creator Mark Holland said a traditional reward didn’t match the show’s cultural relevance. “A trip to the Maldives wasn’t enough anymore,” he noted. Instead, Bitcoin was selected to reflect the growing influence of crypto in youth culture and online entertainment.

Even before the show’s debut, producers had to fend off crypto-related scams. In late May, they issued a public warning about fake memecoins circulating under the show’s name.

We support Bitcoin and no other memecoin,” the official statement read, distancing the production from any unauthorized token promotions.

As crypto continues to seep into pop culture, its presence in mainstream formats like reality television is creating new touchpoints for fans—and fresh targets for scammers.

Netflix Doubles Down on Crypto-Fueled Storytelling

This isn’t Netflix’s first dive into the world of digital assets. The streaming giant has been steadily building a crypto-centric catalog, spotlighting the drama and downfall of high-profile industry figures. One standout was Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King, a gripping documentary about the collapse of Canadian exchange QuadrigaCX and the mysterious death of its CEO.

In May, Netflix confirmed its latest addition: The Altruists, a limited series chronicling the rise and fall of Sam Bankman-Fried, the disgraced founder of FTX, and Caroline Ellison, former CEO of Alameda Research. With themes of betrayal, courtroom drama, and billions in lost assets, the show promises another headline-grabbing look at crypto chaos.

Streamers and Crypto Influencers Face Rising Security Threats

While House of Streams aims to entertain, its cast could find themselves grappling with a darker side of fame—especially in a climate where crypto visibility increasingly comes with real-world risks.

As of June 6, the featured Twitch personalities—including The Black Hokage, CyborgAngel, and OutplayedByJade—have remained silent about their participation. Their caution may reflect growing concerns in the influencer community, as more digital figures become targets of extortion, robbery, and even physical harm.

In one of the most disturbing incidents this year, streamer Kaitlyn Siragusa, known online as Amouranth, experienced a home invasion in March. The attackers reportedly demanded access to her cryptocurrency holdings after she shared a 2024 screenshot showing nearly $20 million in Bitcoin stored on Coinbase.

Months later, French authorities revealed an attempted kidnapping involving the daughter and grandson of Paymium CEO Pierre Noizat. The attackers allegedly sought crypto ransom—highlighting just how personal the risks have become for those tied to the digital asset space.
