In a move that merges art, technology, and philanthropy, Big Comic Art, a pioneering NFT artist, has announced the auction of a rare digital artwork originally minted on the SuperRare platform in 2019.
The sale, set to coincide with Valentine’s Day, will see all proceeds shared among 20 participating artists in an effort to support the digital art community. This initiative, organized in collaboration with One Love Art DAO, underscores the growing role of blockchain technology in fostering artistic collaboration and economic support within creative ecosystems.
A Legacy NFT and Its Significance
The NFT in question, titled “♥️” and created by Big Comic Art (Jake Johns), is a unique digital artwork that encapsulates the spirit of early blockchain-based artistic expression. Minted in 2019, a formative year for the NFT market, this piece is considered a cultural relic in the digital art space.
2019 marked a pivotal period in NFT history, as blockchain-based art was still in its nascent stage. The era saw a limited number of artists experiment with the technology, making works from this period particularly valuable. Digital assets from this time are prized for their early adoption, scarcity, and role in shaping the contemporary NFT landscape. According to Big Comic Art, “this digital relic is not just an artwork but a symbol of the early days of a transformative movement.”
The NFT has been placed in a smart contract vault utilizing Emblem Vault technology, ensuring its authenticity and seamless integration with modern blockchain platforms. It is listed on the Emblem Vault marketplace with an asking price of 420.69 ETH, a nod to cryptocurrency culture. The sale will include a 5% royalty benefiting SuperRare, reinforcing the ethos of ongoing artist support through smart contract mechanisms.

The proceeds from the auction will be distributed among 21 recipients, including the 20 artists participating in One Love Art DAO’s “AGAPE” event, which celebrates unconditional love through digital art.
Hosted at the Gates Hotel South Beach Miami, the event showcases on-chain artwork using Transient Lab technology, demonstrating the intersection of blockchain and contemporary creative expression.
One Love Art DAO has played a crucial role in elevating digital artists by providing exhibition opportunities, financial support, and access to a global collector base. Past initiatives have included showcasing artwork on billboards in New York City and providing artist residencies.
